Peter Assmann is an Austrian Art Historian. He studied art history and German literature at the University of Innsbruck, where, in 1990, he defended his PhD on the frescoes of Santa Maria Novella Basilica in Florence.
He has been Visiting Lecturer in several universities in Austria and, currently, he is Adjunct Professor at Politecnico di Milano.
He has curated several art exhibitions in Austria and abroad.
From 2002 to 2012, he has been the Director of the Austrian Museums Association (Museumsbund Österreich). He has also been Director of the Oberösterreichischen Landenmuseen in Linz and the Angerlehner in Thalheim bei Wels, and a member of the Network of European Museum Organisations (NEMO). Since 2011, he is member of the scientific committee of the museum of Castello del Buonconsiglio in Trento. At present, he is Director of the Museum of Palazzo Ducale in Mantova.
